The "one-stop shopping experiment" has actually been going on for quite some time with the Kroger Marketplace stores - but with only a few dozen of them after 8 years, it's a wonder they haven't either gone big with the concept or ditched it entirely. One would think after this long, they'd know whether it works or not.

Anyway, the addition of clothing is certainly a new wrinkle - it's been available for a few weeks now (the articles cited make it sound as though it's "coming soon"). There's some more about this initiative, and the challenges Kroger faces, here if you're interested:

Actually Kroger has owned Fred Meyer's on the west coast for 13 years now. Fred Meyer's stores have always been one stop shopping, food, garden, clothes, (small) furniture.
They ought to know pretty well how it works.
