The head of AMD's SeaMicro server unit predicts ARM-based (ARMH) server CPUs will "have a huge impact" down the line. The biggest selling points for SeaMicro's servers are density and power consumption, and those are the same reasons many in the industry are exploring the use of ARM CPUs, in spite of near-term software issues. Prototype ARM servers using AppliedMicro (AMCC - previous) processors could arrive as soon as the year's end. (new SeaMicro hardware) (Marvell)
