While several Apple suppliers rallied following the release of iPhone 5 teardowns, Cirrus Logic (CRUS -3.3%) wasn't one of them. The teardowns revealed a Cirrus audio codec chip, but this was widely expected, and it isn't clear whether expectations of higher dollar content have panned out. OmniVision (OVTI -1.3%) is also closing lower after Chipworks' teardown revealed a Sony (SNE) image sensor is powering the iPhone 5's rear camera, though an OmniVision sensor is powering the front camera.

  • Could be tough for OVTI. I was betting on them to snag both sensors. Half a win is better than none, but it's not worth hanging around I think. Margins are too low overall in sensors now to make much splash anyway.

  • Real question is whether the upbeat outlook that they delivered was predicated on them getting both or simply the front camera... (Disclosure: I am long OVTI)

  • I'm guessing the iPad Mini had something to do with it. We should know next month.
