    With Sprint (S) showing signs of improvement, analysts think the company could expand its customer base by acquiring a smaller rival such as T-Mobile (DTEGY.PK), MetroPCS (PCS) or Leap Wireless (LEAP) to create a strong no. 3 carrier to challenge AT&T (T) and Verizon Wireless (VZ). The stock's 136% YTD gain bolsters its currency for a deal.

    While many people focus on the size, don't forget the challenges with dissimilar networks and spectrum. Sprint is betting on PCS LTE while T-Mobile is going ahead with AWS LTE. Leap really doesn't have a clear LTE strategy otherwise they'd be pulling the trigger. Their only LTE market is is AWS-based. Then there is the demographic synergies or conflicts. Not an easy one to integrate well. Cautionary tale-Nextel.

    Well, $5.50 a share is NOT good enough to go out and buy another POS company. Once the stock hits $10 to $15...then that's a good time to do an M&A project.

    But right now, their plate is full with the network project and the financing of Clearwire. Once Clearwire comes on board with their 4G TD-LTE, then both will not have anything to worry about.

    But I see great thinks happening to the stock as we cross into the new year. Once we are in June of 2013, it will be hard to find Sprint and Clearwire stock.
