BS, Eric, and you know it. Patent wars "prevent choice" only when they are not wars involving your own patents. Very specious statement by Schmidt, and pretty dumb overall, as first he slams Apple and then says it is "a very good partner". Huh?

100 million iOS 6 upgrades in three days, a A6 cpu that kicks the ass of all Android phone and tablets, better graphic performance across entire iPhone, iPad lines that is wiping the floor up of Android products, innovation? Patent wars waste resources, just like real wars.

Patents prevent the choice of stealing, and encourage innovation.

Bear in mind some of these CEOs are still kids in terms of maturity. And the greedy advisors surrounding them are mostly in arrested development.

I recall one decided he liked Warren Buffet when he grew up.

It's their work force that creates all the results. Even Eisenhower and Churchill would have lost the war without Britain and America and Russia and all the Allies.

Let's see, YouTube gone, Maps gone. Search is next. Didn't Yahoo give GOOG search? [I still think GOOG will acq Yahoo sooner than later.] Is there one original thing over there? Maybe GOOG should change their name to "me, too". Steve Jobs tried to get Larry Page to focus. Didn't work, apparently. Ok, GOOG is MSFT Part Deux. Don't you think GOOG is secretly happy that Apple is distancing themselves from GOOG so they can join Samsung in this "patent war" with AAPL. Patents are there to protect. If GOOG and Samsung are basically saying "f**k the rules", then they need to be held accountable. ES needs to go away. Perhaps politics?

Google knows it needs to be careful sleeping with Samsung. Hope they are at least smart enough to know not to marry a golddigger.

Because eventually, the golddigger is going to cheat on you, steal from you, and take half your stuff.

For the stealing & cheating: currently, Samsung is already developing (copying) a divergent path of Android, that they will brand as their own OS. Samsung will have its own Android flavor, like Amazon, which they will use to partner with Baidu and other services in China.

By the time Google realize it's being cheated on, Samsung will already have what they want: an OS of their own to partner with the asian search engines and services.

Exactly. It's called a open license fork. Samsung can fork away from Google's flavor of android and start their own fork. Take all of Google's work and then not give Google what they want; ad sales and customer information. Effectively, Google is screwed. After Samsung does it, they HTC and anyone else can do it, then supply the clone to who ever they want.

In this light, Googles android enterprise is a house of cards. Currently Google is paying a ton of cash to develop android, and selling android hardware at a loss. Anyone could take android and develop a competitive platform and keep all the customer data for themselves; like Amazon did, and even Facebook or Yahoo could do.

And what about Google's rejiggering of the Java api's so that they could screw Oracle out of Java license fees? Please. This is stealing, not competition.

And yes, as Eric Schimdt is right, Apple has been a good partner to Google. But Google hasn't been a good partner to Apple.

Would love to see Apple spend some of their billions on key acquisitions and/or hiring armies of talented folks and really take Maps and Search to another level over next 3 years.

Schmidt screwed Apple when he was on their board and decided to develop Android after being privy to Apple IOS development for iPhone- what a betrayal.

Apple needs to go nuclear on these guys

I want to see AAPL really go thermonuclear. I hope the search goes bye-bye sooner than later. I think AAPL has been honoring the partnership and has laid low on GOOG but get rid of search in iOS and I wouldn't want to be in the line that goes from Mountain View to Cupertino - that's a war zone. It will be fun to watch AAPL give it to GOOG though.
