'Respond appropriately' what does that mean? The new Japanese Prime Minister, after taking power recently, was asked what he was going to do about Japan's suffocating debt levels and its deflationary economic trajectory. "I'm going to watch the markets very carefully from now on." Thirty years after deflation set in. And he thinks watching the market is going to fix Japan's problems? Unloading debt might be a better place to start.

I'm sure Japan is going to respond appropriately by watching China very closely from now on -- which won't do much good.

Watching something closely is not enough.

i looked at these island's location in the current issue of the economist, it looks awfully close to the chinese mainland coast as opposed to japan.

i previously figured it was something like the spratly islands far from the chinese mainland
