The publication of results from a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine using Allergan's (AGN +0.5%) Botox as a treatment for overactive bladder in women looks to be a positive. Results showed that a single injection of Botox into a woman’s bladder reduces urinary incontinence as effectively as daily drugs and is actually better at resolving the problem. This opens up a new market for the drug as a first line of defense for women who struggle with frequent urinary leakage, and if approved, could generate as much as $216M in sales by 2015.
