The assessment by the U.S. Geological Survey, in keeping with true government tradition, is wildly optimistic. The only thing which can be assumbed to be factual to any degree at all is that they looked at it and collectively they said "Ya, there is some oil and gas down there". Hell, I can stand in my back yard and look out over the prarie and come to the same conclussion. Nobody can predict the future nor can they predict with any degree of factuality as to how many barrels of anything are below the surface. It is more often than not a guessing game. If that were not the case there would never be any "dry holes".

84 TCF or 38 TCF is nothing. The annual gross withdrawal from natural gas wells is 28 TCF per year. How many years does 84 TCF of Marcellus shale lasts? And to think that Marcellus is by far the largest US shale play, accounting for almost HALF of US shale.
