Microsoft (MSFT) reportedly plans to spend $1.5B-$1.8B to promote Windows 8, whose Metro interface and (via Windows RT) ARM processor support arguably make it the biggest refresh for Windows in 17 years. A marketing blitz starts this weekend. Fans of the OS have praised it for effectively converging the PC and tablet realms, while critics have argued Metro is unpleasant to use with a keyboard and mouse. Given industry conditions, Microsoft badly needs a consumer hit.

  • Ok. Good. Now they just need to make their commercials smart. Maybe learn a thing or two from Samsung.

  • I used the Beta version of Win 8. The Metro user interface is not really made to use on a desk top. Its great on a tablet. You can go to screen that looks a lot like Windows 7. Its just a mouse click away. I don't plan to upgrade my desk top until the next hardware upgrade. Next tablet will be Win 8. Next smartphone may be Win 8. I will have to sit down and get some time on one.

I agree with stealththology. Those Samsung commercials are great. Strange people standing in line to buy the next Apple product sight unseen. Microsoft should hire their agency.
