Microsoft (MSFT) reportedly plans to spend $1.5B-$1.8B to promote Windows 8, whose Metro interface and (via Windows RT) ARM processor support arguably make it the biggest refresh for Windows in 17 years. A marketing blitz starts this weekend. Fans of the OS have praised it for effectively converging the PC and tablet realms, while critics have argued Metro is unpleasant to use with a keyboard and mouse.
