Like Facebook, Zynga (ZNGA) has apparently decided starting an ad network is a good way to prop up its business: sources tell AllThingsD the network, which will be offered to 3rd-party developers using Zynga's gaming platform, could launch in part by year's end, and will be headed by CTO Cadir Lee, one Zynga vet that hasn't jumped ship yet. Zynga's ad sales, which (unlike virtual goods sales) don't require a 30% kickback to Facebook, totaled $41M (+170% Y/Y) in Q2, or 12% of its revenue.
