Monday, October 29, 2012, 1:17 PM ETThough adoption of ARM-based (ARMH) server CPUs will be held back over the near-term by software compatibility issues, many companies are already interested in using them in big data projects, where software is less of a hurdle and the power consumption and density benefits of ARM servers are given a premium. Among these companies is Dell (DELL), which is working on big data systems relying on startup Calxeda's ARM CPUs. AMCC and MRVL are two other chipmakers targeting this market.
