Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 4:17 PM ETARM (ARMH) has launched its Cortex-A50 CPU core line: the first two designs are the A57, which ARM claims delivers 3x the performance of the processors found in today's high-end phones, and the smaller A53, which supposedly can match the performance of said processors while consuming 1/4 as much power. Initial licensees include AMD (previous), Broadcom, Samsung, and STMicroelectronics. Absent are Qualcomm and Apple, who use custom ARM cores. The first A50-based chips are due in 2014.

The beauty of it all is, how can an ARM processor perform under a real software like Microsoft or Mac? 2 years is a lot of time for smartphone and tablet software to become more efficient and require heavier workloads. Just my 2 cents.
