The FTC continues to have an axe to grind with Google (GOOG): four sources tell Bloomberg the agency's staff has recommended a suit be filed against Google for its misuse of standards-essential mobile patents, and that a majority of the FTC's commissioners are "inclined to sue." The story comes after October reports claiming Google is thinking of settling with the FTC over the matter, and that 4 of 5 commissioners are support an antitrust suit related to Google's misuse of its search position.

  • Of course, that's what Government agencies are in business for, suing, fining, penalizing, taxing, threatening or otherwise extorting money from private enterprise under any pretext. Just another day at the office.

(I have no credibility) but maybe you should wait to hear the facts before you make those gratuitous conclusions.

  • Tack, if it helps keep corporate America from mistreating employees, polluting the land , air, and waterways, and playing fairly with their immense powers(such as avoiding monopolies) then suing them for a token amount seems affable.

  • why do you think competition is there for? The main responsibility of regulators is to punish anti-competitive behavior in markets

  • The best part is that Google and its owners gave heavily to the Democrats and Obama. Isn't irony hilarious....

  • Nothing political. GOOG is simply breaking anti-trust law. Even before this contemplated FTC lawsuit (oh the EU's Competition Bureau is also investigating by the way with formal investigation), Googorola is going to be bitch-slapped on FRAND for its SEP's in two case, against Apple in Wisconsin court (Judge Crabb) and also against Microsoft in Washington court (Judge Roberts). Already world-wide anti-injunction order against Googorola preventing it from prosecuting any injunction against Microsoft over standards essential patents. Larry Page spend his $12.5B cash of shareholders money to purchase Motorola, and got absolutely nothing. Google's general counsel should be fired for not knowing that FRAND neutralizes the value of SEP's so they pissed away $12.5B for nothing.
