Market recap: Investors cheered better than expected reports on manufacturing, consumer confidence and private-sector job growth, and as the east coast begins to recover from the hurricane. Microsoft led tech stocks higher, continuing their rebound. Crude oil climbed after an inventory drop. NYSE advancers beat decliners nearly two to one.

The fact is that the US economy is surging once again, with very strong gains in auto and home sales. Hence the bullish environment.

I would argue it's buy the news of the election/destruction of Lower Manhattan and the MTA. Will the tens of billions of off the book debt of the MTA cause the NY City transit system to go kaput? We shall see...
