Irrational pessimism (Fiscal cliff! Debt! China! Jobs! Waah Obama!) has pushed multiples of good companies to attractive lows. Established companies hording cash have been waiting for their chance. Things will probably change soon for the better so they're buying while things are on sale.

Like what I've heard from franchinsing...It may not be the film(s) that make the money; it's the merchandise that brings in the dough.

And I've heard this from a film too, i.e., Spaceballs.

WWE, the wrestling tv show, makes tons of money off of toys.

Unless I'm mistaken (could be), this isn't new news ... heard this rumor quite some time ago. It made sense from an acqusition and marketing perspective then, and makes even more sense now with the purchase of the Star Wars franchise. I'm long both Disney and Hasbro, so can't see where I'd lose in this deal (fingers crossed).
