The longer the [[J.C. Penney transformation]] continues to result in a bloodletting of shoppers the better things look for department store rivals eager to poach disgruntled customers. In particular, Macy's (M) looks ripe to keep its online sales juggernaut rolling right along, while TJX Companies (TJX) and Kohl's (KSS) are also clear beneficiaries. It also doesn't hurt that one little bit that Sears and K-Mart are trimming their own retail footprint.

  • I'm not religious in the least, but aside from eliminating coupons as a marketing strategy, has any analyst addressed the effects (if any) of thevery liberal message from JC Penney's new owner? Meaning the very blatant message/display of same-sex marriage? I'm indifferent on this issue, but wondering if 'middle-America' was really turned off by this last Mother's Day, thus affecting sales. I haven't done any research on JCP, other than scanning articles over the last year or so.

  • It would appear the skills learned at AAPL don't translate well at JCP.
