    With over 130,000 New York State residents still without power following Superstorm Sandy, Governor Andrew Cuomo has created a commission to investigate the area's utilities for their handling of the storm and to recommend reform. "It has to be overhauled and you need a new system," Cuomo said. NY power companies include ConEd (ED), CH Energy (CHG) and National Grid (NGG).

    Just papering over LIPA which Oh By the Way is owned by the State of NY.

    Imprison the Senior Management of these companies because they did not know that this SuperStorm was going to flood all of those low lying areas. The Italians would and have sent people to prison for such negligence.

    Johann, If you followed congress or the cia/miltary you would see that it has been impemented nationally for many years.

    All utility's have been forced to cut back on available employees,in particular line personnel , because they were not allowed necessary rate increases. When the " hundred year experience" happens ,they will be understaffed. The PSC should visit their rate guidelines to see if they are taking these conditions into consideration.

    It's kinda tough when the 100 year experience happens twice in one year.

    I'm a Con Ed customer by the way, and had multiple properties lose power.

    The 'problem' with the system is that US infrastructure relies on trees. As in telephone poles. And there are lots of them, and they fall down.

    The cost of placing even a majority of power lines underground would be astronomical, although maybe not a bad idea as economic stimulus hah. Or perhaps in the areas hardest hit, during the rebuild they could place them underground.

    ikt easy to dump on con edison for not keeping people informed on there outage. I called up paraco to get my propane tank filled as it was out. I never heard from them even though i left 4 messagers on there voice mail.
