A more likely reason for the strengthening trend of sagging ratings is the lure of video on demand and Internet content options.

The cast members of Jersey Shore are all getting their own TV talk shows. And the industry wonders why (just like the dying music industry) people are simply tuning out.
You know what? Give me a DVD of an old movie and i would gladly watch good movies over and over again and not waste my time with televisions programming.
2) If I can't DVR it and ffwd thru the long, annoying ads, I refuse to waste my time. Use product placement to advertise.
Internet content like Youtube and Hulu fill a big gap.
