I am guessing that since Amazon will soon start charging state/local sales taxes, that it won't have the 8-12% price advantage over local stores, so in a few areas a B&M store might make sense.

They'll still have a huge advantage because they have a much more efficient distribution system than all those dollar tied up in bricks, real estate and sales employees, not to mention that they garner fees for sales referrals to the myriad non-Amazon vendors that appear on all product searches.

Heck, Bezo's probably happy to have his competitors keep thinking having expensive stores a great idea.

Stores are much cheaper than "distribution centers", an army of warehouse pickers, and UPS.

The ecommerce business model REQUIRES low prices- it does not enable them.
