After successfully pulling off a test run in Silicon Valley, the company announced another shocker today by hiring the deputy director of the NHTSA to be its director of safety for self-driving cars. With Google clearly leading the pack in development of the burgeoning technology, the next thing to watch is if it forms a partnership with any of the automakers trying to develop their own self-driving programs.

Of course it's only for Tesla products-----
Maybe Tesla will be the first self-driving car????
I see the Google cars on the 280 corridor between SF and SJ regularly and they would have to have a game changing camera to fit into the Tesla mystique. The camera now is like a roof vent ontop of a spider frame, Ugly!
The fit with Tesla looks really good to me - both Steve Jurveston and Musk have announced in interviews in the last three months that they love the idea of self-driving cars and as I see it, this tech will be the final catalyst (if one is needed) for electric vehicles to really take off in a big way.
