    Isn't Schaprio related by marriage to one of the Madoff clan? Seems I recall that she should have stepped down for conflict-of-interest but my memory is fuzzy.

    "The SEC is a joke"...just the way it was drawnup in the GOP playbook, underfund said Department...wait for overburdened staff to blunder point fingers and say see we need to do away with this useless Department...meanwhile the agos frontrun every order sent to matket (which is highly illegal) whilst not risking a dime...I am sure a non SEC world would self police this behavior, not!

    really? seems like a pretty rational question to ask since all you ever hear from krugmanites is how evil republicans are using the banking system to hollow out the middle class, how keynesianism is the correct economic policy and only enlightened liberals understand it, and how conservatives are just closet racists; with no factual basis to back those claims up. so, to me, the question seems totally valid.

    Last I checked, we have a Democrat in the white house that could bolster the SEC any time he saw fit.

    You folks have to get past the Democrat/Republican blame game. Both parties are bought and paid for by Wall Street now.
