    40M Windows 8 licenses have been sold thus far, a Microsoft (MSFT) exec boasts, while adding the upgrade pace is exceeding that for Windows 7. It's unknown, however, if this figure includes enterprises who have access to Win. 8 through a subscription, but haven't necessarily upgraded. Otherwise, 40M would be an impressive figure for such a short amount of time, especially in light of industry conditions and reports of tepid enterprise interest. On Oct. 30, Steve Ballmer claimed 4M Win. 8 upgrades were sold in the first 3 days of availability.

    Recently added to our position in MSFT... motivated by the low share price and 3+% dividend... anticipating appreciation over time... no plan to sell, but a spike in the Share price would be comforting... MSFT stock should react to favorable sales of Windows-8, and hopefully sales of Surface will follow... Investors who believe in MSFT will be rewarded... 40M copies equates to a significant increase in revenue... Mav

    I tried Windows 8 on a large touch screen at Best Buy. It actually worked very well. I also tried the Beta version with a mouse on my laptop. I was not impressed. A full screen touch pad on a desktop would be great. I think a lot of whining is from people who are trying to use it with a mouse or a small laptop touchpad. Its pretty much useless.

    Since the smart money always has the good news ahead of time, this might just explain the surge in MSFT stock on Black Friday. I don't expect to see much of an upside move tomorrow.

    A better comparison would be:
    Windows 7 x Retail Price = Total Windows 7 Revenue
    Windows 8 x Retail Price ($15 or $60) = Total Windows 8 Revenue

    MS made a good move to charge much lower, and then to raise the price as the promotional pricing ends. A truer comparison will be the unit sales at the "regular" price.

    Incidentally, I had to remove Windows 8 because wi-fi and mouse were not working after the computer woke-up from sleep mode.

    MSFT is in the "show me" category similar to INTC. Both have huge cash stroves, pristine balance sheets and still dominating market shares in their traditional markets. But until either company shows success to the market with regards to their mobile device problems- the stock prices are going nowhere. Oh yes, both companies have excellent dividend yields too....
