    TechCrunch backs up this week's GigaOm report (I, II) about VMware (VMW) combining three non-core businesses servicing Web/cloud app developers with EMC's Greenplum database and analytics hardware/software arm, whose products are often used in big data projects. Like GigaOm, TechCrunch claims ex-VMware CEO Paul Maritz will head the new unit, while adding about 1K VMware employees will be working for him. An announcement is expected next week.
