Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 1:53 PM ETNever shy to make big R&D investments, Broadcom (BRCM +1%) unveiled a refresh of its baseband/app processor line. New products include a chip that features dual 1.2 GHz. ARM CPUs, and one that combines two dual-core chips in a single solution. Unlike Qualcomm's Snapdragon line, none of the chips support 4G, and their performance will likely trail Qualcomm and Nvidia's best. But they could get designed into cheaper Android phones aimed at emerging markets. Samsung is a key Broadcom baseband client. (PRs: I, II) (Chinese efforts)
