Oppenheimer has downgraded Nvidia (NVDA -1.9%) to Perform, arguing its GPU share gains (at AMD's expense) are now reflected in estimates, and the absence of new share gains leaves Nvidia "increasingly exposed" to declining PC sales. Also, MKM has joined a long list of firms to cut its Microsoft (MSFT +0.7%) estimates: following store checks, it expects FY13 (ends in June) Surface sales to amount to just 3.3M. Not a windfall, but with 92% ownership of the PC market and billions of cash, doesn't need to be. Slow and steady doesn't improve the asking price, but it does ensure a bright future for MSFT.
If MSFT was at all pro-shareholder, they would be like all other cash rich companies and issue a special dividend. With dividend taxes going up next year, less reason to won this POS. Low growth, PC sales going away and a meager dividend. Will not sell in 2012 but will offload this mismanaged company in 2013 to realize the tax loss & offset 2013 gains.
I'm not too upset about the special dividend, I'm more upset with their lack of progress in 10-12 years. I love windows phone 8 though, my lumia 920 is by far my favorite smartphone I have used to date.
