Wednesday, December 5, 2012, 1:04 PM ETQualcomm (QCOM +0.5%) has announced its first quad-core Snapdragon processors containing integrated baseband modems: the MSM8226 and MSM8626. They appear aimed at emerging markets: neither supports 4G, but both support China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network. Qualcomm's first quad-core part, the APQ8064, has been designed into high-end Android phones. The latest chips, which feature a less powerful GPU, come as Qualcomm sees growing mid-range competition from the likes of Broadcom and MediaTek. Samples are due in Q213.
