Friday, December 7, 2012, 9:50 AM ETBroadcom (BRCM) stated during its analyst day it will sample 4G LTE baseband chips in 2013. That's a market dominated by Qualcomm (QCOM), and one in which rivals need a presence as 4G support gradually becomes a prerequisite for smartphones aimed at developed markets. Broadcom also forecast its NFC chip shipments will jump, and its R&D costs rise as its develops chips for more advanced processes. Nvidia is also prepping a 4G baseband/app processor for a 2013 launch, via Project Grey. (BRCM 3G chips)
