  • Yes, the world is simply going to end, isn't it? I mean didn't the "China Syndrome" educate us?

My recommendation for all doomsters is not to take anti-radiation iodine tablets, just gulp down your cyanide pills, now, and avoid the final calamity.

The black box trading programs must be loving the wham up and slam down. Wait for the next wham.... wait for it... I wanted to laugh at the idea of QE3 last month, but sounds like the lighter fluid pump is back out.

  • What could be more catastrophic except the building#4 housing the spent fuel blows up creating a dirty bomb. That would move this from a "6" to a "7" which is what Chernobyl was.

  • Tens of thousands of people died in Chernobyl. How many have died from the nuclear plant here? So far, zero.

As someone else pointed out yesterday, futilely attempting to add some scientific perspective, radiation illness occur when levels of exposure reach 1000 millisieverts. Yesterday, the press had a coronary when measured levels rose from 1 to 2 millisieverts.

But, people don't want facts. They prefer, even relish, hysteria --sort of like watching reality TV-- and the media gives it to them.

  • Here is your science part:

Death from radiation exposure usually isn't instantaneous. Days to years from the effects...but there are a guaranteed 50 dead men walking already. Those that have gone back into the facility.

  • ..."Tens of thousands of people died in Chernobyl."???...actua... only 2 people died in the initial explosion...about 30 more died over the next several months from radiation exposure...thousands more deaths were attributed to Chernobyl over the years but the exact number can't be established...it's still way to early even to speculate on the consequences of this event...
