    Some more Microsoft (MSFT) news: 1) The company is expanding Surface's distribution to non-Microsoft stores in the coming days - Microsoft claims it had planned to do so as of Jan. 1. Is it getting desperate thanks to disappointing early sales? 2) Due to its demand for a 30% cut on all in-app purchases, Apple has reportedly rejected an update to Microsoft's SkyDrive iOS app, and is also at odds over Microsoft's plans to sell Office 365 subscriptions via upcoming Office iOS apps. Amazon can relate. (earlier) Update: Staples and Best Buy are among the retail partners.

    I was previously under the impression that AAPL does not charge the 30% for in-app purchases (i.e. the Skydrive in-app charge for more storage.) It sounds like that assumption was wrong.

    MSFT has already stated that their Windows Store apps can in-app charge for 100% of the profits (i.e the Steam app can sell games for 100% profit), and that the 30% take would be for app purchases through the Windows Store.

    This is going to be an interesting development to watch.

    This post makes no sense. If demand for Surface was low: Why would major retailers include them in their stores? So demand must be lucrative in the eyes of Best Buy and Staples, just sayin.

    Apple's weak spot, can't play well with others. Reason we have no iTV, unwillingness to work with content providers. This kind of stance may have worked with the music industry, since it was on deaths door before itunes showed up, but the tv content providers and app developers aren't going to bow and scrape for them, and now they don't have too, thanks to Windows 8.

    Microsoft will be larger than Apple in five years but I feel regarding this special dividend, a company this large should put out a news release stating if they will or will not pay the special dividend instead of putting share holders on edge, this also goes for all large companies.
    The final payment amount should they decide to pay one could come out later, however, the decision should of been announced already.

    Even if apple was to resell skydrive, normal retail markup is 20%. And they are not happy about office365 offering by Microsoft. Nice going Microsoft. Let the battle begin.
