Its latest target is DataRaker, developer of a "cloud-based analytics platform" (two buzzwords in there) for utilities trying to leverage big data (another buzzword) with the help of information from smart meters. IBM has also bet big on utility analytics, via its Smart Grid and IOC businesses. Separately, Oracle has announced an update to its RightNow cloud customer support platform, which competes with Salesforce's Service Cloud.
