I hope Rogers is correct, but I wonder if he isn't underestimating the ability - and tendency - of the political leadership (in this country at least) to do stupid stuff that's not in the best interest of the nation.

Listened to an interview with one of England's more well known environmentalists on NPR. He said that after this incident, he has turned pro-nuclear. If this is the worse case scenario for a modern plant, then it is a no brainer. Nobody has yet died from the incident. Think of the deaths caused by coal mines (in China alone there are thousands per year), or with coal fired plants. Think natural gas explosions in suburban areas. He went so far to say that living by a nuclear plant is much better than living next to a coal fired plant.

We have a wind farm about 50 miles from my home and about 75% of the time you see them idle for lack of wind. Same for solar. Dark 50% of the time and cloudy 30% normally, and 60% cloudy in the winter. Since Kelp is 1000 miles plus away from my home, any other great ideas?

We must never under-estimate the stupidity of the Congress on energy. The ethanol play is a disaster, but its still in the budget and there is a request we go above 10%.

Rogers is being a little flamboyant on time, but there is much to be done to meet this problem
