Amazon (AMZN +1%) is getting serious about becoming a display ad rival to Google (GOOG): AdWeek reports Amazon has created an ad bidding platform that can tap into existing exchanges/supply platforms. The platform, which will also compete with Facebook's (FB) FBX Exchange, lets advertisers re-target ads to consumers based on their browsing activity, and could leverage Amazon's recommendation engine. Amazon's ad business is already believed to be on a $1B/year run rate, and the company has been using its Kindle line to grow the business.
