More violence in the Yemeni city of Taiz as security forces again fire on protesters one day after killing at least ten. With counter-terrorism operations ground to a halt, the U.S. now sees President Saleh as a liability rather than ally in the fight against al-Qaeda. "He needs to step aside," says an unnamed U.S. official.

  • Here's an idea for U.S. policy:

Stop with all the fatuous pronouncements as to who has to stay or go in other sovereign nations, the internals affairs of which are none of our business.

Perhaps, some of those might suggest that President Obama should step aside. No doubt, that might garner even more global support.

  • I would guess that a lot of our allies (both former and soon-to-be former) see Obama and the U.S. as liabilities now. Cooperative countries/leaders (as odious as some of them might be) are the first in line to get the boot, while our enemies (like Iran and Syria) get to go about their business unmolested and often even uncommented upon. Odd how that works with this administration.
