Friday, December 21, 2012, 3:24 PM ETThe FDA says it recalled Medtronic's (MDT -1.4%) SynchroMed II and SynchroMed EL implantable drug infusion pumps back in November, saying that the use of unapproved drugs can lead to "intermittent or permanent pump motor stall and cessation of drug infusion." The overall failure rate of the SynchroMed II pump at 78 months post implant is 2.4% when used to dispense approved drugs, but it climbs to 7.0% when used to dispense unapproved drugs.
