Perhaps, the markets expect the latter.
I wouldn't quite phrase it that way since there were viable pro-market candidates (i.e. more capitalist) but they are already out of the running.
Whoever wins, US does not benefit, but I suspect this is really a tug of war between a leader who looks to the East or a leader with a more localized perspective. China has made big investments in Peru and Fujimori will be more inclined to accommodate China whereas Humala will likely just want to nationalize and screw it over.
Talking about poor people and 'unemployment' reflects some lack of understanding of Peru, the social safety nets and entitlement programs are virtually non existent. Also the economy is heavily commodity based, it's very much a Australia or Canada more than a industrial/manufacturing center or outsourcing powerhouse.
