Craig Mundie, formerly Microsoft's (MSFT) chief research and strategy officer, has been kicked upstairs to the position of "Senior Adviser to the CEO." Mundie will maintain that position until his planned retirement in 2014, at the age of 65. Most of his responsibilities will go to technical strategy chief Eric Rudder, who was once head of Microsoft's Server & Tools unit. Some have predicted Steven Sinofsky's departure would pave the way for further executive changes.
