    "At the highest levels of this company, we believe that it’s quite possible that AWS ends up being the largest business in Amazon," declares Amazon Web Services (AMZN +1.1%) head Andy Jassy, comparing the arrival of cloud infrastructure services to the replacement of independent power generation with an efficient/scalable national grid. Amazon doesn't share details about AWS' financials, but analysts estimate 2012 sales will total $1.5B-$2B: while up sharply from estimated 2011 levels, that's still a small fraction of the $62.1B in total sales Amazon is expected to post this year.     Here we have a company with a $113 billion market cap and some genius who works for the company is making a big deal about a segment of the company doing about $2 billion in revenue.

  • Perhaps he's predicting that the retail portion of Amazon is going to collapse below $2B in revenue.
