Samsung (SSNLF.PK) confirms it will begin selling smartphones based on its Tizen OS this year....

    Samsung (SSNLF.PK) confirms it will begin selling smartphones based on its Tizen OS this year. The phones will likely feature Intel (INTC) processors, given the chip giant's role in co-developing Tizen. Samsung is undoubtedly trying to lower its dependence on Android, but whether it succeeds depends on the willingness of consumers to embrace an OS that will initially have much less developer support. A Japanese paper previously reported NTT DoCoMo will sell Samsung's Tizen phones.

    Should be a positive for INTC since they will get paid whether the phone sells or not correct?

    I'm guessing Samsung will cut its orders to Intel if the phones don't sell well :). But it's a nice reference win for Intel, especially since they haven't cracked Samsung's Android lineup yet.

    Interestingly Samsung isn't using a Samsung manufactured ARM chip.
    Hmm..

    Does this mean Samsung sees something otherwise not apparent in the Intel chips? Maybe Apple sees this same thing?!!

    Okay, no more wild speculation, but good news for us $INTC longs.

    Samsung could jsut see that INTC has the most chip capacity of any chip maker and that it might translate to lower costs while getting similar results.

    as of now, it is just a nice symbolic reference win - not really relevant unless it increases Intel's market share in this segment.
