Amazon (AMZN) continues its video licensing spree, striking a deal with A&E to gain streaming rights for popular shows on Lifetime, The History Channel, A&E, and The Biography Channel. Netflix (NFLX) lost access to many of these shows in September. The positive spin: Amazon, which now has 33K titles in its library, has a growing amount of valuable content that isn't available on Netflix. The negative spin: these deals aren't coming cheap, and Amazon doesn't have Netflix's streaming revenue base to subsidize them.

  • But isn't it true that most of those A&E-affiliated titles are still available for Netflix customers via its DVD service? So this need not be seen as such as problem for Netflix, which still has far more overall content.

I have said it before and will keep saying it, the Netflix streaming and DVD services COMPLIMENT one another!
