    Windows 8 (MSFT) receives a big vote of confidence from the DoD, which says it will deploy the OS as part of a massive deal with Microsoft that covers nearly 75% of its ~450K personnel. Many enterprises and institutions have declared themselves uninterested in adopting Win. 8, whose new UI makes many IT departments uneasy. However, some IT security experts have argued the OS' new features, such as Refresh and Secure Boot, will make it more secure than Win. 7. Office 2013 and SharePoint are also covered by the deal.     The government in general could probably expedite a lot of processes if they had simple touch screen solutions. A lot like airlines and checking bags and getting tickets. They effectively eliminated 20-50% of their front desk work force through the use of the kiosks.

    The average increase of govt. workers during the Clinton and Bush administrations was 8%. And that during the last Obama adminstration was 0.8%. I did not believe this analysis in a Bloomberg Weekly somewhere around August/September 2012.

    If it does not reduce government workers, it will increase efficiency.

    It seems like the airlines have reduced over 50% of their workforce. I see so few of them when I am travelling and half of those present stand and watch you check yourself in.

Nice security 'endorsement' from DoD. Making RIMM argument about BBs uniqueness more difficult. That is, imagine corporate CIOs contemplating, if it is secure enough for DoD...

    Yes we can.
    1) Buy Windows 8 and use only Internet Explorer 10
    2) If you don't want to do # 1, Upgrade to Windows 7 and update Internet Explorer to version 9.
    3) Stop visiting porn sites and other sites that compromise your computer and stop accepting cookies from all sites.

    Just doing the above will make your computer 99% more secure.

    Actually, not using Java and Flash are more likely to make you secure, assuming your Windows updates are current.

    If you want either or both, be sure to grab a good AV product. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and a good start.

    The biggest consumer in the world announces a pretty large deal with MSFT and the stock barely budges... yet some talking head talks and it drops...

    This will force DoD contractors to follow at least in upgrading to Office 2013 and SharePoint 2013 to maintain compatability with their customer. Should be a big plus for sales in that part of MSFT's business.
