This was the blurb describing the news from the CNBC website:

"Weekly applications for U.S. unemployment benefits ticked up slightly last week, the latest sign of stability in the job market."

That seems so Orwellian to me - an increase in the unemployed is a sign of strength!

Anyway as they say it could have been a lot worse.

Someone's getting fired for printing a non recovering headline number like that. Last weeks number was revised downward, now that's a rarity; someone else is probably getting fired for that one too, you're supposed to make it look good when it first comes out not after.
