    A month after AppData figures (subsequently disputed) on Instagram's (FB) user count triggered a frenzy, the maker of the world's favorite photo-filter app has released monthly user data for the first time. Instagram says it currently has 90M monthly active users, and that this figure is up 10% from December. It also claims to produce 40M photos/day and 1,000 comments/second. Now all that's left is to start monetizing this activity in a way that doesn't trigger another backlash.

    Hence the major problem with Instagram and FB. Already have 90M monthly users and not clue if any will stick around for monetization. All this money is being spent to support this service with no corresponding revenue. In fact, a user could share thousands of photo and leave the service before even helping the company generate any revenue. An absurd business model.
