Death by showrooming? Best Buy (BBY +1%) continues to play catch-up to Amazon (AMZN) in mobile commerce as the retailer only sees about 10% of the number of mobile visitors that its heavyweight Internet rival does. Though execs talk a lot about taking down Amazon's formidable market share, a more reasonable goal may be to pass Target which currently boasts twice the mobile traffic of Best Buy.

  • Is this an apples to apples comparison within the CE category? If BBY is half of Target with a fraction of the categories, is that bad? 95% of everything I have personally purchased on Amazon is not CE as well.

Just looking to confirm I am reading an article that is comparing data in a manner that tells the proper story. BBY will never catch Amazon in overall online revenue, interactions or anything related if we are having a full assortment issue.

My point does not even touch on the fact that even within CE, much of Amazon's stock is not Amazon inventory or in an Amazon warehouse. It would be like comparing 1 company to another plus every small business using a channel plus every individual using that channel. Considering much of this is margin neutral for Amazon I do not see the value in constantly attempting to reinforce the issue with misaligned data.

  • This should come as no surprise if you have ever used the BBY mobile site. I am surprised they are that close to Target.
