Thor said within the article, that RIM needs to show the potential of BB10 to the world first before anyone can/will think about any licensing deal. There is no word about separation of hardware production. Nonetheless he has stated in the past, that several forms of licensing models could be part of the BB business model equation of the future.
Of note: the better dividends at the moment are in Cdn stocks.
Why is there are discussion about not buying RIM because it's a US listed security? If you just buy the one that is listed on the TSX, then you don't have withholding.
I never stopped believing in RIM, and have been a user of their products for years (and yes, that means I use BB as my primary communications device), but I don't see mass consumer adoption in its future. But I'm ok with that too as I RIM can be a profitable niche company regardless.

Motorola is still bleeding money, Google is pumping in cash and probably won't see breakeven in the near future.
Any company that wants to get into the mobile space would be better off buying HTC, Sony or Sharp's mobile hardware division. At least those manufacturers have experience with reasonably good hardware running a popular OS...
Is it Realornot!
They make a very good email product and this is still a very important buying criteria for the IT dept of mid and large sized companies not to mention despotic, totalitarian governments.
Yeah but did you read the headline article?
They're not selling RIMM, they're just selling the BB hardware division. All you'll do is buy over RIM's not-very-good hardware division and become their OEM. And there's no guarantee they won't license out BB10 to other OEMs like the Chinese phone makers.
Like I said, if you were a CEO you'd have to be ridiculously thick or desperate to buy it unless at a serious discount..
