Englishmen are entitled to use their own language as they please and place names on countries as they please. It is indeed the "Ivory Coast" in English just as it used to be "Bombay" and now is "'Or'nee'%h\oray" (sorry, doing my best to imitate the squiggles).

In my lifetime "Beping" became "Peking" became Beijing" became "Krugman's Maoist Paradise."

I prefer the English method of naming the place simply and without squiggles and then leaving the name the same.

A spokesperson close to another spokesperson rumored to be close to an advisor to the Vice President quoted the great man as saying 'Hillary came, she saw, she conquered. Now I'm gonna put dem all back in chains.' The spokesperson assumed he was referring to terrorists and not a retired Republican couple vacationing in Abidjan."
