  • Well, harumph! I think the three-eyed, eagle-beaked toad will have something to say about that!

Why pretend that this is about avoiding "environmentally sensitive areas?" This is, was and will continue to be a simple power-grab.

Can't Obama gather children around him and run off new Executive Orders to stop this? Can't he gain the support of Nebraska's-own Warren Buffett to explain to the hoi polloi why energy independence is a legacy of slavery and colonialism?

(Meantime the fatcat Buffett's trains move the oil by rail)

  • Based on yesterday's comments in the President's inauguration speech 50/50 he approves it. IMO, he should, the less we rely on the Middle East and Venezuela the better.

  • Well, this oil is for Canada to sell, probably to Europe, so nothing about U.S. energy independence, which we will never achieve since it is a global marketplace. Can't we extract a piece of the flow like the state of Alaska does? I.e., why risk environmental damage unless we are getting good $ out of it.

  • Actually it is oil that the US refineries will use to displace what they are currently get from Chavez and the Arabs. It will also create a lot of US jobs and the pipeline and refiners and service companies pay US taxes. As for environmental damage - the pipeline is being built to the highest standard and a Tanker accident as happened with the exon Valdez is way more serious than the minimal amount you may get from a properly monitored and controlled pipeline.
