Nice, low ASP business. This will not save AMD, but it is one of the kinds of things that AMD needs to pursue to actually turn it around.

Consoles = good start, but we need a lot more to see a true turnaround in the fundamentals.

pman6 a lot of people had issues with their early Xbox's so I doubt what he is referencing was a 'fluke'.

Honestly I'd like to punch whoever designed the 360 could they make a console any bigger and bulkier... I hope the 720 or w/e they call it is slimmed down and puts out less heat...

The melt downs were due to two reasons. 1) thermal paste not applied correctly if at all, 2) crappy brackets holding heatsinks on chips. Not to mention some of the chips had thermal profiles that exceeded design specs.

Can't argue with the entertainment value however.

The CPU in the 360 was not AMD anyway! it was IBM.

The part that was AMD (the GPU) was faultless.

The CPU needs to be AMD as it is actually faster than IBM's for the job that it needs to do, having said that the fact that it is A, an 8 core and B, 64Bit (AMD IP) suggests that this is a variant of AMD's Piledriver FX-8 chips.

Having x86 makes it also more developer friendly, and games will be a bit easier to port for PCs and vice versa.

I bought one of the first Playstation 3s when XBOX was going into melt down. And I can still shoot down German fighters like ducks in a barrel.

Wasted the money buying the extended warrantee. Could have gotten an extra game or two instead.

Why is there not more of a forward looking bullish sentiment on this stock? With the news of AMD providing CPU and GPU for both Sony and Microsoft, new management, cost reductions, new partners and products such as laptop and tablet components with Vizio, etc. this seems like a great ground floor to get in at to lock in future earnings and growth.
