Nokia managed to become profitable at a time when shorts thought it was going bankrupt. Sure it sold less smartphones but it went through a major transition from Symbian to WP8 which is also new and yet to build a consumer base (although it's growing obviously). 2013 will be a pivotal year for Nokia, I think that had NOK released their Lumia phones sooner in the US we would be seeing radically different results... but they didn't get it out until November (iirc) and on top of that it took 2-4 weeks to get one if you didn't stand outside the store for a few hours before open.
Very true:
"And although iPhone sales jumped 29% to 47.8M, the figure was below predictions of 50M"
It doesn't matter how many millions Apple sells. Analysts expect growth profit records, from here to eternity, which is an utopia. We know it, they know it... everyone knows it but they still don't care. Analysts set their expections to to the clouds and then dump when it's obvious it won't happen.
Next, they lower their price targets to a stupid value (you'll see the PT a lot higher than current price and you'll still want to buy. Most times it's a trap.)
This is how the Stock Market game is played. :-P
29 million Lumias sold
$8 billion net cash
39% operating margins on the Asha line
Nokia is doing a lot better than this time last year but there is a LONG way to go.
Thanks.
