    The Pentagon is cutting all 46K of its temporary civilian workers in anticipation of budget cuts, and - according to Deputy Defense Sec. Carter - hundreds of thousands of employees face furloughs and reduced paychecks by April if Congress doesn't settle on a way to avoid mandatory budget cuts by March 1.

    There are certainly more than 46,000 contractors, and they can't afford to cut them all.
