"The Z10 and BB10 represent a radical reinvention of the BlackBerry," says Walt Mossberg in a somewhat favorable review: he likes BB10's gesture support and keyboard, but criticizes its browser and dearth of cloud services. The Verge's Joshua Topolsky gives the Z10 a score of 7/10, praising its design and camera while criticizing its battery life and app ecosystem, as well as BlackBerry Hub. Engadget's Tim Stevens strikes a similar tone. As rumored, the Z10 runs on Qualcomm's (QCOM) popular MSM8960 processor. RIMM -7.4%. (more)

  • Is it just me or does the CNBC crew want BBRY to fail?

  • Too bad the launch wasn't a couple days later in February. Then the U.S. availability would be "next month." On the bright side of things, the phones are superb. Blackberry is lucky their core customers have more patience than most. Still wish Heins would at least do a small release of the Z10 in the U.S. along with Canada, just to get the U.S. distribution started. It would help to keep the interest going enough that others would be willing to put in a pre-order and wait until March to get theirs.

  • Down over 10% on volume of 200M shares. Not a good start for BB10, wonder what the bulls have to say about it.

Citibank said corporate adoption will be slow, which makes sense given certifications and the planning needed in companies to roll out technology. BB10 will be available in Canada and England before the US launch, so you should get a glimpse of the potential sales when it launches in the US. Blackberries are very popular in both countries so it should get a rousing reception but if it doesn't watch out below.

  • Here's what this bull has to say about it: somebody was buying up 200 million shares while they are cheap for the last time!!

  • Sell on the news! The ~ $18 price had been hyped and short-squeezed for a long while, buying on rumor.

    Typical play!

This is the last ditch for RIM (now Blackberry); hopefully like General Nathaniel Greene strategy backing his troops against the river (no retreat till death)

  • I was very disappointed to hear the announcement that the phone will not be available in the U.S. until March. This contributed to the stock price getting hit extra HARD today. I was under the impression that all systems were GO FOR LAUNCH in the U.S. On CNBC Heins mentioned that the phone is still being tested but didn't mention where. (I assume here in the US. Maybe someone can chime in on this.) The feeling is that people wanting a phone NOW will not wait 30 more days or so for the BB10 and go elsewhere. BBRY is going to need a very strong non-stop marketing campaign through digital, TV and print for all of February in the U.S. The Superbowl ad is obviously not enough. In the meantime, are we going to see BBRY stock enter single digits or do the overseas sells grab momentum and enthusiasm??? Fasten your seatbelts!

  • Yes, their approach to advertising has seemed lackadaisical!

  • Instead of changing their symbol from RIMM to BBRY, they should have adopted DOA, which would have been much more suitable..

  • Another month before the US introduction? RIMM has shot themself in the foot AGAIN! They have not changed and are the same old RIMM. Glad I had a STOP ORDER at 17.25!

  • Gregg, the US is just one country, you know? As is France, and we haven't even been given a date yet, so maybe they are releasing according to their ability to supply demand; profit from one country is much the same as from any other...

  • Yes, but the U.S. has a much bigger population than France and even Canada. Europe has 660 million people. The U.S. has 387 million people. Wealth-wise per capita, we are about the same as France.

  • Absolutely thena, or a few months, in my case, but the BBRY bashers will clutch at any straw, won't they?

  • All the "cool" aspects of this phone, predictive typing, communications hubs etc, are already available on WP8. If your used to using BB then this phone will seem new and fresh but if you have been using any of the other competitors there is nothing new here.

I was really hoping for something more

  • The run up in RIMM share price, before the release of BB10, was the market discounting the news ahead of time. That's why they took their money off the table today by selling. The market says RIMM isn't going to be worth more than what it reached, so take the money and run.

  • Interest that (RIMM) stopped at support. If they break that, expect $11. Doubt it will go to single digits before the US release. http://yhoo.it/WzsqPW

  • You are missing the point...in the 4th quarter Apple sold 48 mil Iphones....Samsung sold 62 million smart phones......thats 110 million smart phones that just hit the market and 99 percent of them came with a contract.....Rimm has little chance with John Q public...the phone is fine...but its still a phone in a sea phones....corporate is the only salvation...and the have been on hold now for how long waiting for this phone...now they have to goto March.....I am not a Apple bull or Samsung bull.....but Rimm will most likely break 12 dollars before March to the downside

  • I feel like on "another planet". Devices where expected launching in Europe (EMEA) and Canada prior to U.S. Heins stated this months ago (and I've been writing it several times in these lines).
Expectations (incl. mines) were "mid/end of Feb." for the U.S market, while nothing but Q1 was stated by BlackBerry. Basically, a later 15 days delay is a drama ... what a joke.

Anyway, when I state I'm long with $BBRY, I'm not talking about moving positions across several stock values; I'm talking about investing in a company, exactly as if they were private. I put some money where I believe the growth potential is big. It is still big, not to say huge, as the launch party we saw yesterday only explained 10% of the capabilities of the BlackBerry10 platform.

I invested long, I am long, I stand long. At least for 2-3 years; sticking with Thorsten Heins' plan.

  • As a current BB Bold 9900/9930 user, I'm only mildly disappointed that the new devices aren't going to roll out in the US sooner. I'm not even eligible for an new every 2 upgrade until 4/15. I bought the latest Bold as soon as it came out, so few people can upgrade ahead of me unless they are willing to pay more than the standard $200. As long as they have the Q10 out by 4/15, I'm a happy camper.

  • I'm not expecting a Torch like portrait-slider model, which saddens me greatly, but I look forward to the Q10.

I like that BB continues promoting a full desktop-class browser experience while the competition intentionally disables functionality in theirs. It allows me to avoid constantly buying an app-this and an app-that.

Still, some apps are useful, and I like that there will be a Bloomberg app, although wondering about Skydrive and whether TDAmeritrade will put out an app. Also looking forward to see how Docs2Go works via HDMI to a monitor off the phone....
